As a seasoned fitness professional and cycling instructor, I have come to enjoy everything fitness has to offer, even applying it to everyday life goals. I have always encouraged my clients to apply all the “gains in the gym” to real-world activities; apply Boot Camp skills to a Spartan race; treadmill training to their first 5k, 10k, maybe a full marathon; or taking Spinning onto the streets and really experiencing the adventure of life on two wheels.

Now more than ever with the current pandemic, it’s important to maintain our health and total well-being!  According to American College of Sports Medicine’s RX for Health Series, “moderate-intensity physical activity is associated with better immune function. Regular physical activity can help reduce your feelings of stress and anxiety (1).” And what better way to stay fit than to have fun with it!  “Play is intensely pleasurable. It energizes us and enlivens us. It eases our burdens. It renews our natural sense of optimism and opens us up for new possibilities (2).”

I took that to heart, searched and found a newly created all women’s Cycling group on social media (3). Not only were my physical needs being met, but also my social and mental aspects of health and well-being. We meet weekly and on weekends ride varying distances; visit outside art/mural exhibits, historic landmarks, local favorites, and ride various trails in our city. There are not any heart rate parameters nor requirements for calories burned. Rather, we focus mainly on the connection with one another, building camaraderie, and experiencing the moment at hand. Today I challenge you!  Discover. Explore. Connect. Have fun. And pedal on.

This month our content writers are focusing on bringing some fun to your wellness and work routine.
