Antonique's Story

We watch each other grow

Antonique got into health and fitness at an early age. Conditions like obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol plagued her family members, so she was motivated to follow a different path, pursuing a career in the health and fitness industry.

She started out by working at big-box gyms but soon found they weren’t a good fit for her. “I felt like I couldn’t be myself in such a cutthroat environment,” she said. “Selling memberships was not for me.”

Still, Antonique earned a master’s degree in exercise science, found Corporate Fitness Works on LinkedIn and applied for a Health Fitness Specialist position.

“I knew CFW would provide me with a chance to help others,” she said, “but I didn’t realize how much the job would inspire me to help myself.”

Antonique’s role as a Health Fitness Specialist varied each day, as she did anything from teaching group exercise classes, to administering health fitness assessments, to customizing plans for personal training clients.

Watching her clients work through their individual challenges and better themselves inspired Antonique to get more active, too. So she began doing the workouts with her personal training clients – an engaging way to motivate them during their hectic workdays – as well as getting her own workouts in before her shifts at CFW.

Three years later, Antonique was down 60 pounds. “This job has done so much for me personally.” she said. “I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone, and I’ve learned a lot about myself.”

Antonique is now a Health Fitness Program Manager, where she oversees fitness center, wellness, and incentive programs at her client site. She’s still a part of the action, too: On any given day, you can catch her leading an outdoor boot camp class or guiding a walking club.

The relaxed environment and team mindset at CFW are two things that stand out the most to Antonique. “The best part is that we have each other, and we just watch each other grow,” she said. “No department works on their own – we’re truly like a family.”
