Eat in Season – Healthy Spring Smoothies

Written by: Kelly Fay, CFW Health Fitness Specialist

When it comes to eating fresh fruits and vegetables, there’s nothing more satisfying than eating in season. When you eat seasonal treats, you are more likely to benefit from the nutritional aspects because the fruit is picked at its ripest state making it denser in nutritional content. Out of season foods are also picked when the fruit is ripe but oftentimes include additives in an attempt to preserve the freshness. In other words, when you eat in season you can expect a juicier, more delicious and healthier treat!

Another benefit? You can exercise your creativity in the kitchen! This spring, treat yourself to a healthful habit and blend these plant-based smoothies to perfection. With fruits such as blueberries, peaches, papaya in full bloom this time of year, you can expect naturally flavorful delights. If these concoctions don’t inspire your seasonal appetite, get creative and mix your own spring smoothie- with all seasonal fruits and veggies, of course!
